Fast Memories Part 10: 2006 Oh my goodness......where do I start with this abysmal stain on Sonic's career????
When I first started seeing screenshots and test footage of how this game would be as it approached his 15th Anniversary 10 years ago; I was all excited and giddy with glee. Because at this point it had been 13 years since Sonic Spinball (don't ask. I just really hate that game) and thought that nothing could wrong with what was touted as the beginning of the "Sonic Age." Boy! Were we ever so wrong when this was released to stores in the run-up to the Holiday Season 2006. I don't know what was worse with this game; the patience inducing load times that seemed to have more presence than the player's game time, the story in which Sonic is facing an appocalyptic catastrophy greater than that of Sonic Adventure 2 or the very questionable nature in which Princess Elise kisses Sonic on the lips in order to help with reviving him with the Chaos Emeralds. I do like how Sonic's social media manager, Aaron Weber; basically skipped over talking about Sonic 360 during a convention panel. I would have liked to have done the same. But you can't have the good without the bad. And sadly this game is very bad. I could go further with my comments but as mentioned in the video I wanted to keep this as brief as possible. And that's how it will be. Fast Memories Part 9: 2005 This is what happens when the Franchise tries to go TV14 and fails in the process as it feels contrived and forced that SonicTeam would try and make something that was aiming for a WWE Attitude Era when it was just fine sticking to the Marvel Cinematic Universe level where there are wink-wink moments, but doesn't cross a line.
Which it sadly does here. And if you thought that was bad......just wait until the 15th Anniversary a year later. Fast Memories Part 8: 2004 A year of innovation and also the birth of running gags of characters talking within gameplay which grates very quickly and marking the first Sonic game where it is available on multiple consoles as this was also released on the PS2, Xbox as well as the Nintendo Game Cube
Fast Memories Part 7: 2003 This was a real good year with not only a port of Sonic Adventure 1 with additions and improvements but also the first anime Sonic series to debut with Sonic X.
In some respects, this is a series I had been waiting a while for since seeing the anime movie in 1999 and for the most part it's a decent series. It has it's fair share of faults, but plenty of good elements enough to keep you engaged. Fast Memories Part 6: 2001 & 2002 Only 2 years into it's existance in the western world and the Dreamcast bids a sad farewell. Not before one last outing with the sequel to 1999's Sonic Adventure in the very quick paced Sonic Adventure 2 with the debuts of Rouge the Bat & the mysterious Shadow the Hedgehog whom has been a fan favourite since appearing in this game.
Fast Memories Part 5: 1999Oh boy! Did things change in a big way at this turn of the century?!
The world was going through changes in not only preparations for a new age, but also changes in technology in terms of evolution with regards to the Internet and how new tech was coming that would shape our way of entertainment enjoyment. And 1999 was a great year for our boy when he debuted on the Dreamcast on 9.9.1999 in what is considered to be one of the best Sonic games to date. Fast Memories Part 4: 1994 We've now reached that point in time where things begin to up the ante with the addition of Knuckles the Echidna whom, if we're being honest, really should be handled with more respect in regards to how his character is in Sonic Boom.
Here in Sonic 3 & Sonic & Knuckles, he is actually seen as a formiddable foe for Sonic and someone to be taken seriously. Fast Memories Part 3: 1993Love Sonic Games? check! Love cartoons? check!
This year was something that longtime tend to treasure a lot due to the fact that Sonic had at last been given a voice in the form of Family Matters' Jaleel White who played Erkel. That and the debut of Sonic CD is something that people have not forgotten either. Fast Memories Part 2: 1992 We've reached what many argue as one of the best Sonic games ever which is also the highest selling title in the franchise's history to date at over 6 million copies. That's more than the likes of Sonic Unleashed, Sonic Adventure and Sonic Heroes.
There's food for thought. |
